You are invited to explore Scripture Union's volunteer opportunities for children's ministry through SuperKids® and PrimeTime® programs by contacting Dr. Michael Staples, Director of Field Ministries or the Field Director for the Region.
Michael brings a broad background of experience to the position as a missionary, educator, community development director and mobilizer of church volunteers to work with youth and children over a 25 plus years span. A graduate of Grove City College, Erskine Seminary and Fuller Seminary where he earned a doctorate in Leadership and Organizational Development; Michael has served as both a teacher/trainer of others as well as having led projects to youth and children throughout Africa, Asia and the US.
In South Africa, Michael was engaged in reaching out to street children in the early years of Nelson Mandela’s government. While serving in India, Michael helped to establish a program reaching at risk families and a child sponsorship of 200 children of prostitutes along with an education program, health care clinic and job training program. Michael also served as the Regional Director for Global University for India and as a professor at Southeastern University where he engaged students into outreach and internship opportunities at a home for disadvantaged youth that he directed over a seven year period. When asked about this experience, Michael says, “One thing I love to see happen when I engage college students and youth into outreach ministry, is to see the ‘light bulb turn on' in their lives. Jesus becomes even more real for them as they identify with His heart for the children and His care for the poor.”
